Unusual Suspects

400 words; Approx Reading Time: 3 minutes. A short story on a trail gone cold!

Dec 17: Breaking News: A middle-aged Finance Manager has gone missing for two weeks now! Below is the recount of the last recorded conversation with the room mates on an early December night. Real names not disclosed to ensure privacy.

The family room was dimly lit, the fireplace was on and the aroma of hot-chocolate spread everywhere. The newspaper with all the deals and coupons lied around scattered on the floor. For a rambunctious bunch, all five of them were unusually quiet.

Finance Manager started the conversation, “Shopping season is here and unlike last year” he stressed, “we really need to plan our purchases. Let’s be sensible this year”!

Social Butterfly excitedly squealed, “Shopping!!! Yaaaayyyyyy!! Let’s all meet up with friends and go early to the store next week and purchase all our favorite brand shoes at 30% off!!”

Techno savvy said, ” Wow!! Slowdoowwwn butterfly! You are always the first to jump up at everything…I think we will just end up spending all the saved money on dinner. Let’s just buy online when the sale opens and we will save more like 40%”!!

Impatient Fashionista frowned, “Ughh! You guys complicate everything. Why wait until next week?? Let’s go to outlet tomorrow and save 50%”!!

The OCD Planner got really nervous and blurted, “Whoa.. whoa..Whoa…Hold on! You guys know how I love to find deals! Should we put aside some money each month and buy next spring?”

The Finance manager lost all patience at this point and screamed “All of you Just shut up and why don’t go shop in your own closet and SAVE 100%.???!!

Upon hearing the finance manager’s words, Butterfly was very unhappy as she loudly said “Nooo”; Techno savvy was sad and curled up into a ball; Fashionista was visibly angry and stormed off yelling “I am surrounded by the most boring idiots!!”

And that’s where the trail ended cold. That was the last time anyone heard from the Finance Manager these past few weeks. No one spoke a single word about what happened that night. While life is moving on, the search is still on!!!

I have a very good feeling that the Finance Manager will be found under a pile of credit card bills, just after the shopping season is over in January and reunite with the rest of the many colorful and devious parts of ME!!!!!😆😆
